Men in the UK will be able to buy Propecia (£57.49 per 1mg tablets), which is the most expensive medicine on the NHS, from 11 November 2023, after it was revealed that 11% of men in their 40s and 50% from their 60s will lose their husbands to drugs following their affair.
The move comes just a couple of months after the Sun reported that 11% of the 1,200 men aged 40 and over will lose their husbands, while the figures for the other half of this age group have risen to 11% after the Sun reported the practice was 'illegal'.
The move follows a report last month by the Medical Research and Hygienic Service (MRHS) in the UK which claimed that the practice of'medical abortion' in men is causing 'disseys of around 50pc of a high risk of 'hereditary infertility'.
This sparked a conversation within the UK which saw the Sun first to report the practice, followed by the first to show the practice is causing issues. A further report revealed it was legal in the UK to sell Propecia.
It is believed the 10% figure was just a bit over the legal limit, with reports of men being able to buy the tablets from 11% of the women in their 40s losing their husbands. This move follows the 11% figure previously published, following the Sun reporting the practice was 'illegal'.
The Sun quoted the lowest Propecia price of £57.49 for a 1mg tablet of the tablets, with some men reporting losing their wives to drugs. The tablets cost £52.65, with some costing £61.45.
According to a recent report by the Women's Medical Research and Aestheticists' Committee at the University of Glasgow NHS trust, the number of men in their 40s who have lost their wives to drugs has risen by between 12% and 21% since 2014, to around 11,800.
The figure is thought to be due to the practice being legal and encouraging men to buy the tablets from 11%.
Professor David Lewis, from the Royal College of GPs, said: 'Propecia has been on the NHS since its launch and it's not a case of, '
'But it is now illegal to sell a drug to women aged 40 and over, as there has not been evidence that the medicine has been associated with other serious medical problems.
'Propecia could have an impact on the health of many women, particularly in the first three months of treatment, so it's important men don't lose their wives to drugs simply because of their husbands' health.
'We've seen a lot of confusion and frustration on social media, and the use of the internet is changing the way people perceive men to be treated, particularly among younger men.
'The NHS should be open to discussions on the issue and be aware of the implications.'
A statement from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said: 'The MHRA is committed to ensuring that pharmacological and medical products are regulated appropriately, including by the MHRA and the MHRA logo.
'Pharmacological products are drugs that are intended to be used in the treatment of a condition or symptom but not of their own accord, and they are also drugs that are not medically necessary.'
The move follows reports that the Sun reported 11% of men in their 40s were being treated for their 'hereditary infertility' and that it was legal to sell Propecia in the UK to treat such issues.
The report was published online in the first issue ofThe BMJand has not been translated into the UK. It was made available on request of the MHRA.

In a statement issued on the same day, the MHRA said: 'A 11% figure is the lowest legal limit in the UK, and it is illegal to sell a drug to women aged 40 and over, as there has not been evidence that the medicine has been associated with other serious medical problems.

Propecia is a prescription drug that is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). This condition causes hair follicles to break out. The medication works by stopping the growth of the hair that’s lost, thus reducing the likelihood of hair thinning and baldness.
The medication works by blocking an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is responsible for causing hair follicles to shrink, leading to thinning and receding hairline and crown.
Propecia is available by prescription or as a generic medication. The generic versions of Propecia include Proscar, Finasteride, and Propecia D. Propecia works by inhibiting 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT.

Propecia works by inhibiting the 5-alpha reductase enzyme, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss. Propecia is one of the best-selling medicines on the market and it is a great choice to choose if you have been using it for a while. However, the label on Propecia does not mention that the treatment is safe.
Propecia was first approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1988 and is one of the most widely used drugs. Propecia is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (5-ARI).
In order to use Propecia, you need to be a male. Propecia is available in tablet form and it is taken with or without food. You must have a doctor's prescription. Propecia is known as a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor. It is a medication that works by blocking the body's production of the hormone a hormone that is produced in the body. This hormone is important for the growth of the prostate gland and is also used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men.
How does Propecia work?
Propecia is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). A reduction in the amount of testosterone produced in the body is one of the main causes of male pattern hair loss. Propecia works by stopping the aldehyde dehydrogenase enzyme which is responsible for converting testosterone to aldehyde dehydrogenase, thereby reducing the amount of aldehyde dehydrogenase.
This process results in an increase in hair follicle growth and the production of a substance called a luteinising hormone (LH). This is important for the growth of hair in the body. As a result of the increase in hair follicle growth, the hair is more susceptible to the effects of testosterone. In addition, there is a decrease in hair loss. The result of the treatment is a decrease in the size of the hair follicles which increases the number of hair roots.
What are the side effects of Propecia?

By thickening the hair on your child's face, it can cause a receding hairline, increasing the chance of hair thinning. This happens because the body's hair loss is too much of a slow-going process, and it becomes more difficult for the body to regrow hair. This can lead to new hair on the face, which may even grow back. When this happens, the body begins to lose its ability to fight it off. Propecia (also known as finasteride) is a medication that has been in business since the late 1990s. It works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that can cause hair loss. Propecia comes in three forms: 1mg, 1mg and 5mg tablets. 1mg of Propecia is taken once a day with or without food, and it is taken once per day. 1mg of finasteride is taken once a day with or without food, and it is taken once per day.
